Stewart writes:
Perhaps I should have realised where it would lead, but then again how are we to know the mysteries of God’s ways?

I would normally be the type of person to lend my support for mission from a distance, behind the scenes, and I only agreed to join a team from our parish to help design and print an explanation leaflet for a three-year plan between Milltown, Killyman and North Kivu Diocese in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Of course, this meant that I had to become more involved and interested than I ever thought I would be!

After more than four years, little did I know that I would be the only one of that group who wouldn’t have a good enough excuse when asked to prayerfully consider going to DR Congo as part of a CMSI team! And I didn’t realise that the team would turn out to be as small as it did! Is God teaching me something?

Having recently retired from full time employment, His timing is impeccable as usual!

Commissioning done, commitments made, tickets at the ready, our small team of two (Linda Abwa and myself) are very much looking forward to visiting our friends in Goma and North Kivu Dioceses, especially the CCD Orphanage in Butembo.

Linda writes:
Our hopes are that we will build meaningful relationships with people in North Kivu, which will deepen and strengthen our already solid partnership with Bishop Isesomo and the CCD Children’s Home. Apart from worshiping and spending time with our church family in North Kivu, we hope to be visiting the Diocesan offices and a rural parish to learn about the challenges there.

We are especially looking forward to spending as much of our time as possible with the children and the volunteers who care for them in their home. Milltown and Killyman’s partnership with the CCD home has resulted in improved accommodation for the children and we are excited to see how this is working for them and understand how we can continue to partner with them for the future.

Please pray for:
+ Smooth travels and speedy acclimatisation to our new environment
+ Ability to communicate meaningfully across culture and language barriers
+ Sensitivity and positive impact as we meet the children
