The last weekend of September 2017 saw CMSI return to Dromantine Retreat and Conference Centre, near Newry, for Ignite – the society’s annual conference. This is the event in the CMSI calendar that truly caters for everyone with a connection to CMSI or a wider interest in global mission. 2017 was only our second of Ignite at Dromantine, but it’s already established itself as a special event in a special place.

Friday Extra
On 29th September, over 40 of CMSI’s friends and supporters joined the staff team and our global guests for the Friday Extra residential programme. We sang together, we shared in communion together, we welcomed our friends from Rwanda and South Sudan, we got to know a few folk better through a panel interview…and some of us competed in the Ignite Beetle Drive Championship.

The Friday Extra programme really is a lovely evening of togetherness and sharing – it’s a very valuable ‘added extra’ to the main Saturday conference. One of the attendees had this to say:

A lovely warm family welcome and evening. The panel was very good and was greatly helped by Paddy going first and sharing so deeply which led it into being a very special time…

Ignite Conference
A further 100 folk joined us on Saturday 30th September for the main day conference. The programme started and finished with a time of worship together – with Bishop Justin (Maridi, South Sudan) sharing in the morning and Bishop Ferran (Kimore, Elphin and Ardagh) leading a reflection and a ‘recommissioning’ in the afternoon.

In between, a varied programme of seminars shared stories and updates from all nine of our global partner countries and covered topics including: women’s ministry, clergy training, short-term visits, hope in ‘hard places’. We also heard from the Wilson family and had a chance to learn songs from around the world.

Ignite offers a snapshot of the best of CMSI – it celebrates community, connection, partnership and transformation. It inspires and equips us for another year in mission. It points us to the God of mission – the one who sets our hearts on fire and calls us to blaze for Him.

Here’s a ‘highlights video’ of the weekend…
