Swimming, praying and eating

The last week was like a spa treatment – a CMS conference, a date with my husband and a chocolate scrub!

We had the opportunity to go to a CMS Africa conference, which included representatives from CMS GB, CMS NZ and of course we were representing the Emerald Isle! Connor joined us and was bemused to experience the full eccentricities of a bunch of mission partners and mission associates in one place.

The venue was a resort on the shore of Lake Victoria, Entebbe. There is something so therapeutic about being beside the water! Gideon thought he had died and gone to heaven, because there was a pool, a bouncy castle and crazy golf all in one place. He exclaimed that he wished we could live there forever! The children’s programme was certainly a hit with Gideon and he learnt a lot about the Fruit of the Spirit, like being patient in a restaurant while waiting for his chips to come is exhibiting one of the Fruit of the Spirit.

We had an opportunity to listen to how God is using people to minister in various places, to learn about CMS strategy for Africa, and much more.

One of the highlights of the conference is being refreshed, the novelty of time spent with old friends, making new ones, sharing life and the challenges that come along with living overseas. One of the big things one misses about Ireland is the freedom to simply meet friends for a coffee and chat. The bonus was, not having to go home after coffee to cook and clean! Canon Benoni (Uncle Ben) led the daily morning bible study on Romans 15:13. His message was thirstily received by one and all.

During the week my husband took me out for a romantic meal while Conor kindly watched Gideon. It isn’t often that we have an opportunity to ‘go out’ as Kiwoko does not boast any romantic hotel locations! It was lovely to have a couple of hours to chat without work pressures or interruptions.

Our friends, hearing that we were in town, invited us out for dinner and for moi a facial with a promo chocolate scrub thrown in! It seemed surreal and the height of wantonness to have your body smeared in what smelt like Belgian chocolate, when receiving a bar of Dairy Milk Chocolate to us is like receiving a lottery win, not to mention the extravagance of using food as a skin treatment!

A refreshing week of rest, fellowship and fun and too much food – in and on the body!!

Denise I'm so glad to read this! The conference sounded amazing and I'm delighted Conor being there meant you and Rory could have some time to be renewed and refreshed together 😘 Thanks for looking after my big son so well and keeping him motivated. You're all always in our prayers xxx
