Serve God with all our being

In Ephesians we read that salvation is a free gift from God. There is nothing we can do to earn God’s favour. So why should we serve God? Why should we give generously of our time and other resources? Because the next verse says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the things He planned for us long ago.”  Eph 2:10

Christ-followers are new creations — designed to serve God with our talents. We are created to do the good works he has planned for us. Our time, our energy and all we have are his. We can serve in all kinds of ways: by encouraging a friend or welcoming refugees, by providing vocational training or discipleship for our global partners or by serving in the church.

When Rev Arsene visited All Nations Ministries, he got stuck in, helping David do a house clearance in the greater Belfast area. He was amazed at the generosity of Northern Irish people, giving their material possessions to those seeking refuge here. He told us that in Burundi, furniture of that quality would have a high resale value. Rather than selling it for profit, it was being given away free of charge! Gifting pieces like these was, he told us, a beautiful example of God’s goodness.

God doesn’t need our help. He can do anything. But we can be part of showing and sharing God’s kingdom to others. Since God created us and planned for us to serve, let’s serve generously with all our being.
